The choice of materials for chain link fencing directly affects its performance and application scenarios. Currently, mainstream materials can be divided into three main categories:
(1)Low-carbon steel wire: Using Q235 carbon steel as the base material, hot-dip galvanizing forms an anti-corrosion layer. It is low in cost and high in strength, widely used in basic protection scenarios such as highway guardrails and construction site fencing. For example, Tesla's Shanghai Gigafactory uses hot-dip galvanized chain link fencing as workshop isolation netting, and its impact resistance can withstand forklift collisions.
(2)Stainless steel wire: Using 304/316L medical-grade stainless steel, it can resist corrosion in humid environments without surface treatment and is often used in highly corrosive scenarios such as marine engineering and chemical industrial parks. For example, in a seawall reinforcement project in Qingdao, 316L stainless steel chain link fencing boxes filled with stones successfully withstood the impact of waves caused by typhoons.
(3)Composite Materials
PVC/PE coated wire: A 1-2mm thick plastic layer is wrapped around the metal wire, which enhances corrosion resistance and provides a variety of colors. A tennis court in Beijing uses green plastic-coated chain link fencing, blending seamlessly with the surrounding greenery, while its durability is ensured by a 12-year hot-dip galvanizing coating.
Zinc-aluminum alloy wire: Using a zinc-aluminum mixed metal as the base material, its corrosion resistance is three times that of pure galvanized wire, making it suitable for salt spray environments. A mine slope protection project in Fujian uses zinc-aluminum alloy chain link fencing, combined with hydroseeding technology, to achieve a dual effect of 'protection + greening'.

High-strength alloy wire: With the addition of elements such as manganese and chromium to increase tensile strength, it is commonly used in high-security scenarios such as military protection and prison fencing.
Fluorescent coated wire: Fluorescent materials are added during surface treatment, automatically emitting light at night, improving the safety of roads, scenic spots, and other locations.
The core advantage of chain link fencing stems from its unique 'hooking' process and diamond-shaped mesh structure. This design endows the product with four key characteristics:
(1)Flexibility and Impact Resistance:The diamond-shaped mesh automatically adjusts to the terrain. For example, in a mountainous highway slope protection project in Yunnan, the chain link mesh dispersed the impact force through elastic deformation during a landslide triggered by heavy rain, preventing overall breakage. Its impact resistance is 2.3 times that of traditional welded wire mesh.
(2)Light and Air Transmission:With a mesh size of 60%-80%, the light transmittance exceeds 85%, ensuring both unobstructed visibility and reduced wind resistance. A golf course fencing project in Shanghai uses an 80mm×80mm large-aperture design, preventing accidental ball entry while maintaining ventilation.
(3)Modular Installation: Rapid assembly is achieved through bolt connections or clip-on fixing, eliminating the need for welding equipment. In a construction site fencing project in Hangzhou, a 3-person team completed the installation of 1000 square meters in 8 hours, increasing efficiency by 5 times compared to traditional brick walls.
(4)Ecological compatibility: Combined with ecological management technologies such as gabions and vegetation bags, it forms a 'flexible protection + ecological restoration' system. In a river management project in Gansu, chain link mesh cages filled with gravel formed the foundation of the embankment, and the surface was sprayed with soil-stabilizing grass seeds. After 3 months, the vegetation coverage rate reached 92%.
